Vietnam, Australia hold third security dialogue in Canberra

(VOVWORLD) -Vietnam and Australia will enhance cooperation in exit, entry, and the fight against illegal maritime migration to Australia so as to improve immigration management, receive citizens back, and share information and improve air security, according to a security dialogue on Wednesday.

The third security dialogue, held under the two countries’ joint statement on their strategic partnership signed in March 2018, was co-chaired by Senior Lieutenant General Luong Tam Quang, Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Public Security, and Sophie Sharpe, Deputy Secretary at the Australian Department of Home Affairs.

Also high on the agenda were the promotion of ties in cyber security, data security, and essential technology through anti-cybercrime programs.

Both sides exchanged information about organised crime, drug and precursor trafficking, and money laundering.

Vietnam and Australia also discussed the reinforcement of partnerships in minimizing disaster and climate change risks, plus improving the response and recovery capacity through delegation exchanges with the National Emergency Management Agency of Australia.
