Vietnam, Australia hold high-level talks

(VOVWORLD) -National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue on Wednesday held talks with Speaker of the House of Representatives Milton Dick and President of the Senate Sue Lines as part of the Mr. Hue’s official visit to Australia.

At the talks, the two sides agreed to promote the exchange of high-level visits on the Party, State, Parliamentary channels and people-to-people exchanges and to coordinate in organizing meaningful activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of their diplomatic relations on February 26, 2023.

They stressed the need to accelerate the implementation of the Vietnam- Australia Action Program for the period of 2020-2023 and other agreements and to boost cooperation in security-defense, agriculture, education-training, tourism, and culture.

Emphasizing great potential of economic cooperation between the two countries, Chairman Hue and the two leaders of the Australian Parliament agreed that with their roles, the two legislatures will promote, encourage, and create favorable conditions for goods exchanges, especially open the market for each other's agricultural products and fruits, expand and access each other’s market.

Both sides said they will strengthen close coordination with relevant agencies to effectively implement the Action Plan for the 2021-2025 period of the Strategy to strengthen economic cooperation.

They agreed to support upgrading the Vietnam-Australia Strategic Partnership to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership at an appropriate time.

The leaders pledged to strengthen the exchange of expertise in legislative and supervisory work; create favorable conditions for the two countries' Friendship Parliamentary Groups to operate; coordinate and support each other at multilateral cooperation mechanisms, regional and international parliamentary forums.

At the end of the talks, the two sides signed a cooperation agreement between the National Assembly of Vietnam and the Australian Parliament for the next phase.
