(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam’s Foreign Ministry has responded to a UN report released early this month urging Vietnam to crack down on women and girls trafficking following reported abuse cases among those recruited to work in Saudi Arabia.

Spokeswoman Le Thi Thu Hang told the press on Thursday: 'Vietnam has always prioritized gender equality promotion and narrowing gender gap to facilitate women’s equal participation in all social aspects for sustainable national development. Vietnam has carried out various measures to protect female workers, prevent sex abuse and harassment at workplace through the Labor Code 2012, the Children Law 2016 and Vietnam’s accession to 25 ILO conventions, including 7 out of 8 core conventions covering the abolition of child labor and forced labor. Vietnam has been the first country in Asia and the 2nd in the world to have ratified the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.'

The spokeswoman said that under that spirit, the Foreign Ministry has been in constant communications with the host country’s diplomatic agency and labor management companies to stand by for citizen protection. Vietnam will continue to verify and ask for investigation and settlement in line with the law to protect citizen, women and children’s rights and interests.
