(VOVWORLD) - The government has approved the master plan on sustainable exploitation and use of marine environment and islands for 2030, with a vision to 2050.

The goals are to effectively and fairly use sea and island resources to serve socio-economic development in association with ensuring national defense, security, foreign affairs, and international cooperation.

Maritime pollution will be is controlled and significantly reduced while maritime, coastal, and island biodiversity will be protected and the values of marine cultural heritages will be promoted. The impact of natural disasters will be minimized as much as possible. Vietnam will be able to proactively and effectively respond to climate change and sea level rise, heading towards the goal of turning Vietnam into a strong marine country and rich from sea resouces.

By 2030, sea and island resources will be rationally exploited. Main marine economic sectors in order of priority are tourism and marine services, marine economy, oil and gas and other marine mineral resource exploitation, aquaculture and fishing, coastal industry, renewable energy and new marine economic sectors, and improving the lives and livelihoods of the community.

By 2050, marine and island resources will be properly exploited in order to turn Vietnam into a strong marine country on the basis of green growth.
