Both sides discussed their alliance, peace on the Korean peninsula, and issues of mutual concern.

Minster Chung Eui-yong called on the US admiral to continue to play a role in strengthening the South Korea-US alliance, saying it is the foundation for regional stability and prosperity, as well as peace on the Korean peninsula.

The commander said he would back diplomatic efforts by South Korea and the United States to foster peace on the peninsula by maintaining the combined defense posture of the allied forces.

In another development, Japan’s media reported that Japanese Prime Minister Suga Yoshihide, US President Joe Biden, and South Korea’s President Moon Jea-in will probably meet on the sidelines of the G7 summit, scheduled to take place in the UK this month.
