(VOVWORLD) - The US on Sunday officially pulled out of the Open Skies Treaty, six months after the Trump administration notified the Treaty’s 34 other members that the US would withdraw.

The Treaty was signed in 1992 and came into force in 2002, allowing participants, including the US and Russia, to conduct surveillance flights in each other's skies. The US and Russia regularly accused each other of violating the agreement.

Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov said the US’s withdrawal will disable the Treaty and Russia will seek other countries’ commitments to comply with the agreement.
