The US government on Tuesday recommended that all US citizens leave Yemen due to an escalating terrorism threat targeting US diplomatic offices and citizens. According to a spokesperson for the US State Department, Jen Psaki, the US sent a military transport aircraft to Yemen to evacuate US diplomats and tourists. Psaki said attack risk was high throughout the Arab Peninsula. The decision was made after US intelligence intercepted a dialogue between two leaders of the international terrorist organization al-Qaeda about imminent terror attacks. This is the reason the US State Department has closed 25 of its embassies and consolates in the Middle East and North Africa. The closures are in effect from Sunday of last week. 19 of the offices will reopen next week. The US State Department warned US citizens all over the world that terrorists could target public transportation and tourist spots. This is the most serious terrorism threat in the last few years. Some European countries have also temporarily closed their Embassies in Yemen and certain other Muslim countries.
