The statement came after EU Trade Commissioner Cecilia Malmstrom met US Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross in Washington to secure an exemption for the EU from planned US import duties on steel and aluminum, which will take effect this week. Ross and Malmstrom said they have agreed to immediately launch a process of negotiations on trade issues, including steel and aluminum tariff, with a view to identifying mutually acceptable outcomes as rapidly as possible.
