The move, announced on Friday, revives a previously suspended executive order from President Trump that imposes tariffs on packages under 800 USD.
US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) says it is prepared to enforce the new tariffs and conduct enhanced package screenings effectively. The change won’t impact passenger wait times at ports of entry.
Under CBP’s latest guidance, all shipments from China and Hong Kong, regardless of value, are now subject to 145% tariffs, with few exceptions like smartphones. Express carriers such as FedEx, UPS, and DHL will handle most of the impacted packages.
Postal shipments valued up to 800 USD will face a 120% tax or a flat 100 USD fee, which will double to 200 USD in June.
