US eager to engage more deeply with provincial governments in Vietnam, says Marc Knapper

(VOVWORLD) - US Ambassador to Vietnam Marc Knapper on Tuesday had a working session with Lao Cai’s administration to improve cooperation between Lao Cai and its US partners in infrastructure improvement, poverty reduction, new-style rural building, and human trafficking prevention.

The US delegation included representatives from USAID and Family Health International 360.

Addressing the event, the Ambassador said that the US’s policy is basically to support a strong, prosperous and independent Vietnam.

“We support Vietnam’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. We respect the political regime of Vietnam. With all these things in mind, we’re eager to engage more deeply with not just the central government, but provincial governments as well, particularly Lao Cai,” Knapper added.

The same day, Knapper attended a discussion on human trafficking prevention with functional agencies of Lao Cai province.
