President Moon was speaking at a joint press conference with Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison after bilateral talks in Canberra. He said he believes an end-of-war declaration will help revive stalled talks between the 2 Koreas and between North Korea and the US.

The armistice was signed in 1953 between North Korea, China and the United States. Since then, the Korean Peninsula has technically remained in a state of war, even though North Korea and South Korea both became members of the United Nations in 1992.

Addressing the United Nations General Assembly in September, President Moon reiterated his view that an end-of-war declaration is necessary, hoping that it would bring North Korea back to the negotiating table on denuclearization with the United States.
