At a reception for Ambassador Kritenbrink  in Hanoi on Wednesday, Mr. Phuc said the two nations should continue their close cooperation in economics, trade, security, defense, and international issues in the lead-up to the 25th anniversary of the normalization of bilateral ties.

Mr. Kritenbrink promised continued US assistance for Vietnam in dealing with the war aftermath and expressed a desire to advance cooperation with Vietnam particularly in security and defense. He said the US regards Vietnam as an important partner in the region and wishes to develop its relations with Vietnam and the ASEAN for peace, cooperation, and development.
