UN Security Council urges for an end to Myanmar violence

(VOVWORLD) - The UN Security Council expressed deep concern on Wednesday over increased violence across Myanmar and in a joint statement called on all sides to exercise the utmost restraint.

The statement was drafted by the UK and agreed to by 15 Council members. They encouraged the pursuit of dialogue and reconciliation in accordance with the will and interests of the people of Myanmar, the statement said. The Council also called for full, safe, and unhindered humanitarian access to all people in need and the protection, safety and security of humanitarian and medical personnel. The statement reiterated their deep concern at developments in Myanmar following the declaration of a state of emergency on February 1.
