(VOVWORLD) - The UN Security Council issued a statement on Monday expressing “deep concern and dismay” at Israel's announcement on February 12 that it will expand its settlements in the West Bank.

"The Security Council reiterates that continuing Israeli settlement activities are dangerously imperiling the viability of the two-state solution based on the 1967 lines", said the statement endorsed by 15 members of the UN Security Council.

Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday called the UN Security Council’s statement "one-sided", and criticized the US for endorsing it.

The Israeli PM’s office said Monday that Israel's leadership has informed the US that it will not authorize new Jewish settlements in the West Bank in the coming months.
