The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said one million additional children will become malnourished, 2.6 million people will remain displaced, and one million school children will miss school due to COVID-19 closures.

OCHA said that since March 16 when the first case of COVID-19 was confirmed in Mogadishu, the triple threat of virus, floods, and desert locusts has complicated Somalia’s protracted humanitarian crisis. An OCHA report said the crisis is a result of climatic shocks, years of armed conflict, widespread poverty, and long-term vulnerability, which has left 5.2 million people in need of humanitarian assistance in 2020.
