Some 1,400 military personnel and 240 police have been withdrawn in line with a new UN Security Council Resolution. Ashraf Eissa, spokesperson of UNAMID's Joint Special Representative (JSR), told a press conference that two battalions, a Nigerian and Pakistani, each with 720 personnel, have been withdrawn. Two police units, Bangladeshi and Senegalese, each with 120 personnel, have also been withdrawn. Eissa confirmed that Phase 1 of the reconfiguration process will be completed by next January. Phase 2 will involve a further reduction of military personnel to more than 8,700 and police personnel to 2,500 by next June.
