Vietnam News Agency quoted a diplomatic source that no member of the Security Council proposed a joint statement after the meeting. The US, UK and France, the three permanent members of the Security Council, urged stricter implementation of sanctions against North Korea. Meanwhile, the two remaining permanent members, China and Russia, made no comment.

A Vietnamese representative at the UN told Vietnam News Agency after the meeting that as a member of the Security Council, Vietnam shares the concerns of other countries about North Korea's October 19 missile test. Vietnam calls on relevant parties to avoid taking actions that cause further tension on the Korean Peninsula, and emphasizes the importance of resumption of dialogue and negotiations as soon as possible, the diplomat said.

Vietnam reiterates its consistent policy of supporting disarmament and non-proliferation of nuclear weapons towards the complete abolition of these weapons and affirms its strict implementation of obligations related to international treaties and resolutions of the UN Security Council. Vietnam agrees that Security Council resolutions must be fully respected and implemented, but that relevant parties should make every effort to avoid negative impacts of resolutions on the people, according to the Vietnamese representative at the UN.
