Prime Minister Boris Johnson said the bill will protect employment and peace in Northern Ireland but will impose unilateral changes that break an agreement signed with the EU.

Mr. Johnson told Parliament that the new bill will maintain growth and ensure the domestic market’s smooth and safe operation. He called it “a legal safety net” to protect the UK against “extreme or irrational interpretations” of post-Brexit agreements. He said his job is to uphold the UK’s integrity and to protect the Northern Irish peace process and the Good Friday Agreement.
