After last month's inter-Korean summit in Pyongyang, the two defense ministers signed an agreement on realizing the military issues mentioned in the Panmunjom statement reached in April this year, committing to a halt of all hostile acts against each other while increasing efforts to dismantle war risks.
The mine removal took place at the Koreas' Joint Security Area in their shared border village of Panmunjom. More than a million landmines were laid in border areas including the DMZ and the Civilian Control Zone in the South, killing or injuring many civilians and soldiers alike.
