The officials said the operation began at dawn, and by evening they had put 2,031 people on buses bound for newly opened camps near Greece's second city Thessaloniki, about 80km to the south. The group transferred on Tuesday included 662 Syrians, 1,273 Kurds and 96 Yazidis. Earlier, hundreds of migrants protested at the dismantling of the makeshift camp and some escaped to avoid being taken to legal centers. Greece's migrant crisis coordination office said the operation had continued on Wednesday.
