Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani told reporters that agreements have been worked out “and now it is the decision of America whether this deal is implemented or not.” Kanaani did not give details of the prisoner exchange agreement he referred to. 

He said that both Iran and the United States have claimed that a prisoner exchange deal is not directly tied to the revival of the 2015 nuclear accord, the JCPOA, which was signed between Iran and world powers in 2015.

Tehran has sought the release of over a dozen Iranians being held in the US.

Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said the US is determined to secure the freedom of all Americans currently detained by Iran.
