Suez Canal revenues hit record 6.3 billion USD in 2021

(VOVWORLD) - The revenues of Egypt's Suez Canal reached 6.3 billion USD in 2021, the highest in the canal's history despite the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and navigation interruption in March when the giant shipping vessel Ever Given ran aground and blocked the waterway for nearly six days, according to Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority Osama Rabie on Sunday.

The Suez Canal, which links the Red Sea and the Mediterranean Sea, is a major lifeline for global seaborne trade. Some 10% of the world trade volume passes through the artificial sea-level waterway in Egypt.
