The monolithic bronze statue, which is 2.1-metre-tall and weighs 5 tons, is a gift from the Russian Writers Association to the government and people of Hanoi, initiated by the Russian Embassy in Hanoi in 2016.

Outside Russia, Pushkin's bust or full body statue is present in more than 40 countries, including Austria, Belgium, Germany, France, the US, Egypt, Ethiopia, Mexico, and China.

Alexander Pushkin (1799-1837) is viewed by many as the founder of modern Russian literature. He is among the most popular Russian writers in Vietnam.
