State leaders hold bilateral talks on sideline of UN General Assembly high-level debate

(VOVWORLD) - Leaders of the US, Japan, France, and other countries held separate meetings on the sidelines of the high-level general debate of the 77th UN General Assembly in New York on Wednesday.

US President Joe Biden and his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron discussed issues relating to Ukraine and efforts to revive the Iran nuclear deal, as well as cooperation in the Pacific.

At a meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, Biden underlined the importance of strengthening and modernizing the bilateral security alliance. Fumio appreciated Biden’s appeal for UN reform.

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida held talks with Philippines President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and agreed to reinforce bilateral cooperation in security, energy, and infrastructure. Both governments will prepare for the Philippines President’s upcoming visit to Japan.
