The shooting happened just hours after a sniper attack killed five police officers in Dallas during a protest against the police fatal shooting which killed two black men in Minnesota and Louisiana. This was one of the attacks causing biggest casualties for police over the past years. The slain suspect was Micah Johnson, a black Army veteran who lived in the Dallas. He was shot dead after he said that he was upset about white people, especially white police officers.

Three other suspects, including a black woman, remain in custody. In a statement, White House spokesperson Josh Earnest said investigators ruled out any connection between terrorism and the shootings.
