In a phone call with Finnish President Sauli Niinisto, Putin stressed the need for immediately starting negotiations with the US and NATO to establish legal guarantees for Russia’s security. Russia demands that NATO not expand any further east nor deploy weapons to Russia’s neighbors, particularly in Ukraine.

Putin and Niinisto noted the importance of strengthening regional cooperation in the Arctic.
