(VOVWORLD) - The government of the Republic of Korea believes restoring the South-North line of communication will provide a foundation for improving inter-Korean relations, the Ministry of Unification said as officials of the two countries spoke on the phone Monday morning, their first communication since August.

The South said twice-daily communications have resumed via military hotlines and lines operated by the Unification Ministry. The Ministry said that the resumption of a dialogue will ease military tensions on the Korean peninsular.

North Korea’s news agency KCNA said South Korean authorities should make an effort to put the relationship back on the right track and do what is necessary to open up a brighter prospect for the future.
