(VOVWORLD) -A ceremony was held at Vi Xuyen National Martyrs’ Cemetery in the northern mountainous province of Ha Giang on Sunday to rebury the remains of 10 martyrs who laid down their lives to safeguard Vietnam's northern border from 1979 to 1989.

Local authorities in collaboration with the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in Ha Giang province earlier held a requiem to commemorate national heroes and martyrs.

Vi Xuyen National Martyrs Cemetery is the resting place of 1,853 martyrs who sacrificed their lives while defending the nation. To mark the 75th anniversary of Invalids and Martyrs' Day (July 27), veterans across the country gather here to burn incense and pay their respects to the heroic martyrs.
