Quang Tri province develops offshore fishing fleet

(VOVworld) – The central province of Quang Tri has provided offshore fishermen with long-wave communication facilities integrated with GPS devices under the Prime Minister’s decision on supporting offshore fishing operations and seafood production in the Truong Sa (Spratly) and Hoang Sa (Paracel) archipelagoes. This year alone the province has invested 750,000 USD to build on-shore stations and install GPS devices on fishery control boats and offshore fishing vessels.

This year alone the province has invested 750,000 USD to build on-shore stations and install GPS devices on fishery control boats and offshore fishing vessels. Quang Tri has also been responsible for accident insurance coverage for 370 fishermen and paid 50% of boat insurance for 41 fishing vessels. Its assistance has enabled fishermen to build 40 new fishing vessels, raising the number of boats to 84. Additionally, the locality has established new self-management and cooperation groups to help defend Vietnam’s territorial waters.
