Al-Baker made the statement when responding to a question on whether Qatar would open visas for Egyptian tourists during the Qatar Summer Festival 2019. He said that since visas are not available for Qataris to enter Egypt, there is no reason for Qatar to issue visas to Egyptians.

In 2017 Egypt cut off diplomatic relations with Qatar, accusing the Qatari government of sponsoring terrorist organizations like the Muslim Brotherhood.
