(VOV) - The 9th Asia – Europe Meeting officially opens Monday in the Lao capital, Vientiane with the themed “Friends for Peace, Partners for Prosperity”.
Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung will attend the event, which will focus on the current economic and financial situation, global challenges, regional issues, and cooperation between ASEM countries.
Prior to the meeting, Prime Minister Dung held talks with the General Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party, President Choummaly Sayasone. The two leaders praised the successful organisation of events celebrating Vietnam-Laos Friendship Year, which strengthen bilateral ties and promotes understanding between the two people. Dung said he will closely direct Vietnamese provinces and cities, economic groups, and state-owned enterprises to boost economic and trade ties with Lao. Choummaly said Laos will create favorable conditions to speed up the progress of projects agreed between Vietnam and Laos and ensure that they meet the required quality and effectiveness.
Prime Minister Dung visited the Vietnamese Embassy in Laos to and urge the staff to fulfill their political and diplomatic assignments to enhance Vietnam – Lao relations.
