Prime Minister concludes visit to Belgium and the EU

(VOVworld) – Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung left for an official visit to Germany on Tuesday after visiting Belgium and the EU. German newspapers have highlighted the visit. The Evening news-Dusseldorf newspaper said one of the focuses of the Vietnamese government leader’s European tour was to boost negotiations around the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement.

The agreement will facilitate Vietnam’s exports to EU countries and increase EU investments in Vietnam. Another aim of Prime Minister Dung’s European tour wass to discuss current tensions in the East Sea. The newspaper said Vietnam was pursuing a peaceful solution based on the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) and the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC).

The Deutsche Welle newspaper said Prime Minister Dung’s European tour would deepen Vietnam-EU relations towards the signing of the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA). The financial information website financeztreff.de quoted the German Federal Minister of Finance Wolfgang Schauble as saying that German businesses had a big investment cooperation opportunity with Vietnam. Last year Vietnam’s exports to Germany reached 5.57 billion USD, 3 times its imports of 1.85 billion USD.
