Themed "GMS: Renewed Strength to Face the Challenges of the New Decade”, the meeting reviewed the progress of regional cooperation since the previous summit held in March 2018 in Vietnam.
It provided as an opportunity for participants to express their commitments and contribution to a more integrated, prosperous, sustainable, and inclusive subregion in addressing challenges for economic growth and social development in the subregion, region, and beyond.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's attendance at the summit continued to demonstrate that Vietnam values cooperation in the Mekong region, focusing on neighboring countries, special and strategic partners, as well as important markets for Vietnamese enterprises.
The Greater Mekong Subregion is a trans-national region of the Mekong River basin in Southeast Asia. It comprises six regional countries of Cambodia, China (Yunnan province and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region), Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam.
