On the same day, Vietnamese Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Bac Son and Tanzanian Foreign Minister Augustine Mahiga co-chaired a press conference to release a Vietnam-Tanzania Joint Communiqué. According to the Communique, Vietnam and Tanzania want to broaden bilateral ties and seek new cooperative opportunities. The two sides agreed to raise bilateral trade to 1 billion USD by 2020 and pledged to push for the signing of agreements on the avoidance of double taxation and investment promotion and protection. They agreed to implement agreements on expanding cooperation in politics, diplomacy, economics, trade, investment, agriculture, education, oil and gas. They agreed to organize their second meeting for later this year. Vietnam and Tanzania renewed their commitments to promoting peace and security globally and regionally in compliance with the UN Charter and international law, continuing to work together to defend the basic principles of international law – especially pertaining to the handling of disputes by peaceful means. Vietnam requested that Tanzania support its bid to become a Non-permanent member of the UN Security Council in the 2020-2021 term and the International Law Committee in the 2017-2021 term.
