(VOVworld)- State President Truong Tan Sang paid a working visit to the southern province of Ben Tre on Saturday. He inspected the province’s efforts to cope with sea level rise, the Ba Tri sea dyke and Ba Lai dam and sewage system, which is being built to prevent salt intrusion in northern Ben Tre. At a working session with local authorities, the President stressed the need to complete this system and close the Ba Lai estuary to turn it into a reservoir to supply water for 5 districts in northern Ben Tre province. He urged the province to focus on coping with climate change and increasing efficiency of investment sources. The President said it’s important to pay more attention to improving the sea dykes and irrigation system to boost agricultural development. He asked the province to take better care of social beneficiaries, continue reducing poverty and restructure the local economy.

During his visit to the province, President Sang visited victims of landslides and presented gifts to five disadvantaged households. He also called in the former headquarter of Sai Gon- Gia Dinh Regional Committee in Mo Cay district.
