He told female participants who are leaders, intellectuals and artists, that women account for more than 30.2% of the deputies at the current National Assembly, the highest so far.
Vietnam ranks 60th in the world, fourth in Asia and first in the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) in terms of percentage of women in people’s elected bodies.
The country also comes third in ASEAN and 47th out of 187 countries and territories in gender equality in political participation.
PM Chinh asked for effective implementation of the national strategy on gender equality until 2030 so that women can be further involved in the development process and enjoy more fruits of development.
“Gender quality and women emancipation are an irreversible trend and in line with Vietnam’s cultural tradition. I believe that the fine values of women will fuel the happiness in each family and the community, contributing to a powerful and wealthy Vietnam.”
