PM Chinh chaired a meeting in Hanoi with leaders of ministries and sectors on the implementation of the Strategy for sustainable development of Vietnam's marine economy to 2030, vision to 2045.
It’s imperative to persist in a foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralization, diversification, and strengthening international cooperation on the sea in accordance with international law, especially the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, he said.
The Prime Minister directed participants to continue to closely follow the Party's guidelines and the State's laws and policies, including the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress and Resolution 44 of the Government on the Strategy to protect the Fatherland in the new situation with proactiveness and effectiveness.
He requested the strict implementation of the Directives of the Secretariat and the Prime Minister on preventing and eventually ending the violations of regulations on combating illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing in foreign waters to get the European Commission's (EC) yellow card lifted soon.
The PM urged for better communications, awareness and consensus throughout society and the entire political system about the importance of the East Sea and islands-related work to actively contribute to maintaining peace, stability, and development cooperation at sea.
