PM calls on ASEANAPOL members to boost cooperation

(VOVWORLD) -Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on Wednesday received heads of delegations to the 39th ASEAN Police Chiefs (ASEANAPOL) Conference in Hanoi.

He called on ASEANAPOL member countries to boost joint investigation, bring to light trans-national crime cases, and share professional expertise with high sense of responsibility and mutual trust for an ASEAN of unity and prosperity. The Prime Minister expressed his hope that the conference will work out ways to improve the cooperation among ASEAN police.

He reiterated that the Vietnamese Party, State and Government pay attention to expanding cooperation with international friends. The Vietnamese Government encourages the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security and public security force in particular to boost international cooperation in the fight against trans-national crimes, Mr. Phuc said. Vietnam has been elected as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the 2020 – 2021 tenure, and the country will be ASEAN Chair in 2020.

General Muhammad Tito Karnavian, Chief of the Indonesian National Police, mentioned security challenges the region is facing, saying that via ASEANAPOL mechanism and regional security maintenance, ASEAN member states will find it easier to develop their economies.
