(VOVworld) – During its 2009-2013 tenure, the Vietnam Peace Committee (VPC) has made great strides in promoting people-to-people diplomacy, implementing activities for peace and strengthening international solidarity.

Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan made the remark at the VPC Congress in Hanoi on Friday to review the committee’s activities over the past four years and devise orientations for the upcoming tenure.

She hailed the committee’s contributions to protecting national interests and sovereignty, thus improving the position of Vietnam in the international arena.

She also asked the committee to work closely with Party and State diplomatic agencies to promote its activities among people from all walks of life.

Delegates to the congress appointed a new 12-member executive committee for the next five year term, and National Assembly Vice Chairman Uong Chu Luu was reelected as the chairman.
