In an interview with Vietnam News Agency in anticipation of the Lunar New Year and the 93rd anniversary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (February 3), Party leader Trong said that this year Vietnam achieved and surpassed 14 of its 15 targets.

Its GDP growth has reached about 8%, higher than the target of 6-6.5%. The main sectors of the economy have recovered and developed strongly. Total export and import value went up 10% year on year to hit a record of 740 billion USD, helping the country remain one of the top 25 economies in terms of trade. 

The Party leader cited the Party Resolution as saying that Vietnam consistently pursues the foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, peace, friendship, cooperation, and development, multilateralization and diversification of foreign relations.

Vietnam is a friend, a reliable partner and an active and responsible member of the international community. With its activeness and high sense of responsibility, the country has served in many international positions, including non-permanent membership of the UN Security Council and membership of the UN Human Rights Council. It has also deployed hundreds of officers to UN peacekeeping missions.

On this occasion, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong wished compatriots, soldiers nationwide, overseas Vietnamese and international friends a new year of good health, much joy and happiness.
