(VOVWORLD) - The Gaza Health Authority said on Saturday that over 69,000 had been killed and nearly 171,000 injured in the two-year-long conflict between Israeli forces and the Hamas movement. Most of the casualties are civilians, with women and children accounting for about half.

Compared to a report on October 18, Gaza recorded more than 1,000 additional deaths in just three weeks. Most victims were found under the rubble across the Gaza Strip. More than 250 people were killed in recent Israeli airstrikes on Gaza, despite a recent ceasefire under the peace initiative led by US President Donald Trump.

Gaza health officials fear the death toll may be higher, as thousands of people remain missing and are believed to be buried under debris from Israeli airstrikes. There is a high risk that Israel may resume attacks on Gaza, citing alleged ceasefire violations by Hamas, while Israeli forces continue to occupy and control more than half of the Gaza Strip.
