Participants said that the North Central subregion needs to select key marine economic sectors to develop and build a comprehensive infrastructure in connection to the whole region's infrastructure system. Meanwhile provinces in the subregion need to form a link in marine economic sectors to increase value for local products.

Nguyen Hong Son, Deputy Head of the Party Central Committee's Economic Commission, said, “The Politburo's resolution sets out five goals for the development of the North Central region and Central Coast. They are developing the marine economy in association with ensuring national defense and security and protecting national sovereignty over sea and islands; soon keeping pace with the development of other regions in Vietnam; bridging international exchanges and cooperation; minimizing the impact of natural disasters, floods, storms and droughts; effectively responding to climate change, sea level rise, protecting the ecological environment; and fundamentally improving people's living conditions.”

The North Central subregion consists of 5 provinces from Thanh Hoa to Quang Tri, which connects Northern economic regions to Central key economic zones. To date, these provinces have 5 coastal economic zones of the country’s total 18 economic zones.
