(VNA/VOVworld) – The Fields Institute of Toronto University in Canada is hosting a symposium on the Fundamentals of the Langlands program in honor of Vietnamese mathematics professor Ngo Bao Chau. The symposium will examine Chau’s work and its actual and potential impact.

The symposium’s goal is to introduce automorphic forms and the Landlands program to a broader audience and describe recent developments in areas related to the work. Vietnamese ambassador to Canada Le Sy Vuong Ha hailed the contributions made to mathematics by the Fields Institute and expressed his hope that Chau’s Fields medal and the symposium honoring his work will unite Vietnam and Canada on the eve of the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations next year.
