Chau Binh is the first new-style rural commune in the Mekong river delta province of Ben Tre.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Tran Thanh Nam told a recent conference that the One Commune-One Product project and a scheme on boosting science-technology application in rural localities will be sped up.

The ministry will concentrate on improving production and environmental conditions of rural communes and has developed a project to support mountainous and island communes to implement the new-style rural building program in a more effective manner.

The National Target Program on New-style Rural Area Building sets 19 criteria including infrastructure, production capacity, environmental protection, and promotion of cultural values.
