Ho Chi Minh city on Monday organized firework displays and art programs at several locations.  People visited and offered incense at the Ho Chi Minh Museum and Nha Rong Wharf where President Ho set out in 1911 on a quest for national salvation.

"I worship President Ho Chi Minh at home to pay tribute to what he has done for my motherland Vietnam. I hope that the President, though now in the afterlife, will always watch our steps and bring peace to all Vietnamese people," said 82-year-old Chung Thi Kim My.

69-year-old Boris Chris from Australia said he has heard a lot about President Ho Chi Minh and admires his sacrifices for the nation.

"I was in Hanoi a few days ago. Now I’m here to visit Ho Chi Minh city and see the tunnels and learn about the history of my country, Australia, being involved with the Americans. It’s very important that we come and pay respect and I’ve come to the city on this very special day to pay my respects," said Chris.

The HCM Museum hosted an exhibition called “50 years of implementing President Ho Chi Minh's testament”.
