(VOVworld) – The ninth sitting of the 13th National Assembly (NA) opened in Hanoi on Wednesday, seeking ways to implement the 2013 Constitution and inspect key national socio-economic issues. Attending the opening session were Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, State President Truong Tan Sang, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung, former leaders, and representatives from international organizations.
Top legislator Nguyen Sinh Hung highlighted the importance of the sitting which will review Vietnam’s recent development, from economics and social affairs to defense, security, external and judicial matters while defining urgent tasks to be fulfilled this year. He said:
"Eleven draft laws are expected to be approved and 16 others will be scrutinized during this meeting in a bid to implement the 2013 Constitution more effectively. Among the bills set to be approved, some are on the organization and functions of administrative agencies at different levels such as the revised laws on the organization of the Government, the organization of local administrations, and the Vietnam Fatherland Front. The draft law on the election of NA and People’s Council deputies and the draft law on the promulgation of legal documents will also be ratified during this session."
Lawmakers will hear a report on wrong judgments in applying the Penal Code, the Criminal Procedural Code, and compensation for those receiving an unjust conviction. They are scheduled to approve a resolution regarding the National Assembly’s supervisory program in 2016 and make decisions on several other important matters.
Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc presented a supplementary report on the implementation of socioeconomic development and State budget plans in 2014 and the first few months of this year. The report indicated that results exceeded most of the targets set in the National Assembly’s resolution on 2014 socioeconomic development, and an increase of 5.98% in GDP.
