Mekong Delta provinces mark national holidays with diverse activities

(VOVWORLD) -Various activities have been held across Mekong Delta provinces to mark the Hung Kings death anniversary, the 48th anniversary of South Vietnam’s liberation and Reunification Day (April 30), and International Labour Day (May 1).

A get-together took place in Can Tho city on Friday to review Vietnam’s heroic struggle and the life and revolutionary career of President Ho Chi Minh.

On the same day, a delegation of Vinh Long province paid tribute to martyrs at the provincial Martyrs Cemetery. A ritual in commemoration of the Hung Kings was held at the provincial museum with traditional sacrifice offerings. Other activities included displaying books, documents, and images about the Hung King period and an educational program with folk games on how to wrap Chung (square sticky rice) cake.

An ongoing Southern folk cake festival, the third edition, is taking place in Ca Mau province, introducing dozens of different types of cakes from Mekong Delta localities.

Running until next Wednesday, the festival features traditional cake displays, photos describing Ca Mau tourism, a cake making contest, art performanes, and offering traditional cakes to the Hung Kings at Hung King temple in Tan Phu commune of Ca Mau province.
