(VOVworld) – A ceremony was held on Monday in the central province of Quang Nam to mark the 100^th birthday of Chairman of the Council of State Vo Chi Cong. The event was attended by State and party leaders as well as heroic mothers and people from all social strata. State President Truong Tan Sang reviewed Vo Chi Cong’s revolutionary activities and his contributions to the Party and national revolutionary cause. His life and career are associated with the nation’s revolutionary milestones and glorious victories. President Sang acknowledged Vo Chi Cong’s enormous contributions to the nation. President Sang said: "Vo Chi Cong was always responsible and fulfilled the tasks of any position he took. He made huge efforts to find innovations for economic development, especially in agriculture. By taking careful consideration of people’s opinions, Cong made important recommendations that led to the issuance of Directive 100 on renewing method of production. This was a breakthrough in the country’s agricultural development at that time."

As Chairman of the Council of State, Vo Chi Cong made many contributions to Vietnam’s Constitution and legal system to implement the renewal process to get the country out of crisis and embargo while ensuring socio-economic stability, enhancing national defense and security, and expanding external ties. Chairman Vo Chi Cong was awarded the Golden Star Medal and the 70-year Party insignia, as well as other distinctive medals and titles. President Sang spoke at the event: "As one of the most outstanding successors of President Ho Chi Minh, Vo Chi Cong was faithful to the revolutionary ideologies, and dedicated his whole life to serving the fatherland and its people. He led a simple and noble life and always put the benefits of the country, the people, and the Party ahead of any personal interest. He is loved and respected by his friends, people across VN, and international friends."

Addressing the ceremony, Quang Nam provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Duc Hai vowed to follow Chairman Vo Chi Cong’s bright example. He added that the local authorities and party cells are determined to fulfill any tasks assigned by the Party and state to successfully implement the 11^th Party Resolution to develop Quang Nam province, the hometown of Chairman Vo Chi Cong.
