Rubber sandals were attached to President Ho Chi Minh as his close friend and called "Uncle Ho's sandals". The sandals were made by the Vietnamese army from using a tire of a military vehicle from French colonialists during the Viet Bac campaign in the autumn-winter 1947.
Rubber sandals were modified into five models associated with historical milestones in Vietnam's two resistance wars: Uncle Ho's sandals 1947, Soldiers' sandals 1954, Khe Sanh sandals 1968, and Liberation Army sandals 1975.
