Leaders share joy of new school year with students nationwide

(VOVWORLD) - National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan joined teachers and students of the Thap Muoi High School in Thap Muoi district, Dong Thap province, in a ceremony for start of the 2019-2020 academic year on Thursday.

Chairwoman Ngan said she hopes teachers and students will meet their tasks with determination to reach new heights, thereby helping to equip younger generations – the future masters of Vietnam – with comprehensive knowledge and skills so that they can best contribute to the country’s industrialisation, modernisation and integration into the world. Ms Ngan said: “The education sector needs to reform its management and improve the quality of education by adding a focus on morality and life-skills. We also need to increase investment in teachers and educators and reform education management at all levels, strengthen IT application in education, and reform teaching and learning methodology.”

The same day, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc attended a new school year ceremony at Son Tay High School in Hanoi. He expressed his hope for a great school year ahead, saying that the Party and State always prioritize education and training.

Prime Minister Phuc said: “I hope that in addition to academic knowledge, the teachers will pay more attention to teaching students in matters concerning morality, life style, and life skills while encouraging students to develop their competence and creativity. Only with talent and a sound moral compass can a person contribute to national development and their own family.”

Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh participated in the ceremony at the Hoang Hoa Tham Primary School in Thanh Hoa province.

The  head of the Party Central Committee’s Communication and Education Commission Vo Van Thuong came to share in the excitement of the new school year with teachers and students of the Chu Van An Secondary School in Hai Phong.

Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue beat the drum to kick off the 2019-2020 academic year at the Ly Nam De Primary School in Thai Binh province.

At the events, teachers and students listened to a letter by Party General Secretary and State President Nguyen Phu Trong on the new academic year. There are more than 24 million students at all levels nationwide in the 2019-2020 academic year, which officially began on September 5.
